Good write up to post for us. ive been looking into a lot of the guild wars 2 videos and previews recently as well, the only thing I don't agree with is this holy trinity thing.

When I first watched a video discussing that very topic by name the other day I was thinking the entire time... what the fuck si this going to be, an unstructured hybrid fest with no class homogenization? I think ArenaNet is going to have to take the class boundaries to their very extremes to ensure we don't have too many interchangeable play styles. (Obviously their aiming to make each role interchangeable between the various calsses, but playstyles are one thing that needs to be kept separate for any successful rpg).

I find the Holy Trinity to be an inhibiting part of MMORPGs that worked for a while as a "necessary evil" but now that people have found a way out of that mold it's no longer needed. Not only does the holy trinity not really make too much sense in terms of actually fighting an intelligent being(Deathwing's thought proccess-"I think I'll fight the one with the most armor doing the least damage") but, as the video I posted that talks about it said, it puts too much pressure on tanks/heals, turns the healer's job into a Whack-a-Mole UI staring job, and makes dps over populated.

Each class can have a different playstyle while doing essentially the same thing in GW2(IE tank/dps/support) by doing it differently, While a warrior can prevent damage by blocking it with a shield, a guardian can prevent damage by putting up barriers between the group and the enemies IE impassible walls and protective bubbles. The engineer can kite with slows and nets and it's turret can take a few hits before dieing(although I don't know if the turret tank is very viable). The elementalist has a earth-attunement with defensive earth based skills such as Magnetic Aura that reflects projectiles back at enemies and Shockwave that roots and bleeds enemies.

Each class does things a different way, making them unique in the same way that all ranged dps aren't the same in WoW, or all melee DPS aren't the same, or all Tanks ect. For more info on class skills look here http://wiki.guildwar.../List_of_skills
