Recruiting in general:

WoW isn't a job, and we certainly don't take it as such, but if your application screams, "I TYP GEWD," don't be surprised if we take a really, really long time in getting back to you. Our recruiting process is as follows:

1) You post an application.
2) You /friend us. Ask an officer if there's a class need for you, and if so, when he'd like to run a trial with you.

*** Alternative step 2 ***

2b) You're online at 7:50 - 8:10 raid time and we're short on your class. We will throw you to the lions, but if you're standing at the end, you can pretty much throw your own /ginvite party. If you're the weakest link - and no, you're not the weakest link just because your gear caused you to do 75% of someone else's damage, or you ran OOM. You're the weakest link if I say, "Okay, so the important thing here is when he casts ability X, you do thing Y," and you fail it.

3) We run the instance with you.
4) The guild discusses you. 2-3 may lather rinse repeat.
5) We ginvite you.

General comments:
We don't want you to say you don't mind wiping, or will attend 100% raids, or will farm every herb everyone ever needs. Those are all lies.

Wipes are a drag, period. If you don't have the stomach for them, don't bother apping, because we're not a loot train. We're a wipe train.

Even if you have no life and love WoW to pieces, the power can go out, causing you to miss a raid. People with healthy lives and other activities are fun to be guilded with - we just want you attending *some* of our raids. We're going to rotate you with other people so everyone gets to play *anyway*.

Farming can be fun, in small amounts, to some people. If you want to be a pal and help someone, with something, that's awesome - we like pals, and we'd like to extend the pal circle. But everyone has limits, and eventually, you'll be farmed out.

Humor / personality:
We'll get to know you in game, and on ventrilo. Jokes aren't so funny on paper, and people trying to force funny on an application fall flat more often then not. On a run with us somewhere, there will be plenty of opportunities for an easy joke that just flows from the situation.

Your playtime:
We raid from 8pm to 11pm server time. Tuesday and Sunday are important nights. If you can't make Sunday, new applicants are wasting everyone's time (that's big wipe night, where we're trying to kill Big Scary New Boss Of The Week). If you can only make Sunday, you're not geared up to handle Sunday, anyway (since Tuesday is where most of the loot comes from).

Very Seldomly, raids may be extended one hour. There is no shame in saying you can't stay the extra hour.

As a raid applicant to the guild, we care about your attending raids, not whether you live in WoW. So a brief answer here is cool. "I can make Tue-Sun raids, and I have a lot of playtime on the side, especially Saturday." is an example of a perfect response.

If you can't make our raids, you'll be happier in another guild anyway.

Your spec:
It's wonderful to say you'll spec any way we ask, but people who aren't having fun don't stick around. Some people do actually have fun as multiple specs (for example, I do enjoy being resto as much as feral), and if that is ACTUALLY the case, go nuts saying so. But we don't want any martyrs in guild, you being happy is actually important. You don't need to describe your build in detail, pretend for a minute we're familiar with your class. "5/15/41, standard subtlety build with some combat raid damage and malice." "41/20/0, standard affliction with master summoner."

Or even more brief, "Combat daggers," if you actually know the cookie cutter builds. It doesn't hurt your app if you don't know them, but if you claim you have "Combat daggers" but actually just took 51 points in combat and happen to use daggers, it will hurt your app.

I'd also like to add that if you do not take the time to read the stickies and use the application template that I've provided, you're not getting into the guild.  We picked the questions that we did for the application for a reason and we would like you to take the time to answer them.

How To Get Your Application Rejected:

A) Fail at reading. If you're actually reading this, you probably got past hurdle one. Sorry, but if reading this sticky that is "How to get your application accepted" is too much when you want to get accepted, what am I going to think of your willingness to read a sticky that is "How to get our loot from dude" when we want to get.. loot from dude?

B) Be irredeemably terrible in your instance run. We expect that we have a lot we can teach new recruits, so don't sweat this one as much as most people would think, honest.

C) Have a terrible reputation.

D) Any form of bribery. We expect you to take upgrades that drop for you in instance runs - you're useless to us in white gear. Fair is what we're about.

E) And this one is unfortunate: We simply can't fit one more of your class into our raid(s).

Just to underline something:

We're mostly full. If that changes regarding your class, we'll go looking through open applicant threads here (and I'll dig through my inbox). If not, we won't be contacting you. Not to be rude, and for sure, if you want to know our current standings, I'm generally available for questions ("Hey, are you guys full on warlocks?"). But presently, I'm viewing application posts as freestanding, "Come talk to me about recruiting me!" offers.

Why? Because we will NEVER contact anyone first about joining us - that's sniping, and against what we believe to be good community-minded behavior. You have to want to come to us, and since I don't use my amazing ESP often because it makes my brain bleed out the ears and that's a mess, the only way to know is you having a standing post here.

Good luck !

Why we ask for a World of Logs Report:

Obviously the best way to gauge an app is seeing him/her in action, but a WoL goes a long way in giving us a basic feel for your play. We take logs of every Heresiarch raid in order to help us evaluate what went right and what we could be doing better in real time. We don't expect you to be a WoL guru, but basic familiarity helps when we critique your play. It's not worth harping on if bosses are going down, but hopefully you have the drive to be a better player all on your own.

Examples of critique can be as simple as "hey, you were 4th in damage to these adds, make sure you focus them down more" or "you didn't click the lightwell after the big aoe went out, help out the healers and click it." Every now and then I'll do a more in-depth review on people who are struggling with their class, something along the lines of:

Some things I noticed last night:

Life tap (http://worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-0d45lpb2...321/?enc=bosses)

Sobe - 58
Korat - 33
Nuadaa - 18

The life tap glyph is only worthwhile if you're keeping the buff up. It's a pretty remarkable buff too, I get about 130 sp from it in 25s. The numbers are a bit skewed since I stayed alive longer (another issue entirely) but I still had about twice as many taps as Korat and 3 times as many as Nuadaa.

I'd suggest using some sort of timer to keep track of when you need to tap. You can set up your buff bars in a highly visible space, use dot timers, powa, etc. I use powa to pop up the word "Tap" in red letters if the buff isn't active. I also use a frame in EBB to show me how much time is left - it lets me plan ahead in case I need to move or tweak my rotation on the fly.

Keep in mind that even if you don't need the mana, you should still tap. Switch to rank 1 if you don't need the mana, your healers will appreciate it. If you're taking big damage (Mimiron) or if there's a funny mechanic to the fight (Vezax) you should always use rank 1.

If you're still struggling to keep the buff up, switch to glyph of immolate; it'll simplify the rotation and give you more dps.

Spell prioritization (Sobe/Korat/Nuadaa - % of personal damage)
Incinerate - 46.9 / 39 / 53
Conflag - 17.4 / 20.6 / 16.3
CB - 13 / 15.2 / 13.7
Immo - 12.7 / 20.4 / 14.8

Korat you should be squeezing in more incinerates while other spells are on CD. Our haste ratings are similar (441 vs 442) but your ratio of incinerates are low. You also seem to be clipping Immolates, make sure you refresh just as it runs out or even a second after.

Nuadaa you have the opposite problem. You have more haste than Korat and I so you'll naturally have a higher proportion of incinerates. Accounting for that you're still casting incinerate while you have higher damage spells off CD. In particular, your number of conflags is way too low (see further below).

Dot uptime (Sobe/Korat/Nuadaa)

CoD hits - 16 / 0 / 3
CoA ticks - 74 / 0 / 20

Korat was casting CoE again. If Bearforceone or Charlagain are in the raid, you don't need to. Even if they're not, I wouldn't bother on mobs with low hp (Guardians in P1 of Yogg die quickly enough, use the GCD doing something else).

As for Nuadaa, I'm guessing it's more of mashing incinerates instead of using all the spells. If you want a less complicated rotation, roll mage.

DPS time (Sobe/Korat/Nuadaa - # of hits)

Incinerate - 376 / 187 / 242
Conflag - 121 / 72 / 61
CB - 87 / 53 / 50
Immo - 106 / 85 / 63

Stay alive, stay on target, always be casting. You guys barely out-DPSed the tanks on a night where we had 4 attempts on lolVezaxhax.

The lock theorycrafting is outdated, but you get the idea. WoL allows us to review encounters with detail, recount DPS screenshots for a 30 second fight do not.

P.S. - If you put effort in your app, have enchants/gems in your gear, and provide a log, that's almost a guaranteed invite.
