Easy fight really. I think warmaster blackhorn took us longer to get down. Also, agreed that the whole deathwing encounter is kind of gross. You're flying on his back shooting tentacles growing from his body and then standing in his blood holes. After that you blow a piece of armor that is attached by a tendon and start ripping it apart until the plate flies off. Also he's got all sorts of like corrupted blood oozing from his body; gross. Madness isn't any better. Where are those big tentacles coming from? Blood is literally squirting from his body and coming alive and attacking us. Tentacles are popping out from his limbs. I didn't know deathwing was flying around azeroth with dragon lupus.

Deceax, you forget that Deathwing doesn't wear armor to protect his body from external attacks, its there to hold his body together and to keep all that crap from getting OUT. He's got like dragonic leprosy.

Maybe I need to like read about deathwing some more. What the fuck is going on with his body? Is it just some writhing mass of horrible corrupted shit? Does he even have skin or is it just a bloody lava mess below that armor? Why does blizzard keep trying to rape me with tentacles on so many bosses? This game is fucked.

Yes, his body is just corrupted lava and crap at this point. As for the tentacles, you know you love it.

So I am confused. Do you fight Deathwing or just his spine?

You parachute from a gunship onto his back and pop off his armor plates from his spine. After this he crashes into the maelstrom and there is another encounter where you finish him off.

We're on his spine, peeling off pieces of his armor so that Thrall can hit him with his big dragon soul thing. 2nd part (Madness of Deathwing) is when Deathwing falls into the ocean and we fight different parts of him while the dragon aspects help.

It's actually pretty well done, spine is one of the more original fights they've ever made. I would say that Cata has more unique encounters than Wotlk/BC when it comes to boss design. But it's been the worst for sheer amount of content and was fairly inaccessible to the general player until this tier.

Yeah. Blizz gets serious bonus points for fight creativity this expansion. I was starting to list the clever ones, but the list got longer and longer and eventually I decided it was silly. Ok, fine, Morchok's not interesting, but its still probably more complicated than any non-end boss from BC and would probably be in the upper half of ICC bosses.

On the downside, T11 was pretty nutcracking in terms of difficulty and Firelands was probably just as bad (pre-nerfs). Since they presumably knew they were totally going to stiff us on content this expansion, ratcheting up the difficulty helped stretch things out, but wasn't really a good response to giving us at most 2/3 the content of previous expansions.
