So the cops confiscated the generators/heaters in Zuccotti park today: http://nymag.com/dai...ittle_cold.html

Just in time for the 4-6 inches of snow tomorrow: http://www.weather.c...her/today/10006

They're filming the new batman movie here - "there will be simulated gunfire throughout the weekend." http://www.onlocatio...aturday-sunday/

And it's the weekend before halloween.

Inc riots. Too bad there's nothing good to loot in the neighborhood.

What do you mean, nothing good? The American Stock Exchange (yes, it still exists) is right across the street complete with armed guards. They could make off with some Spiders and Diamonds, man!

A little financial product humor.

Pretty ballsy move by the cops to seize generators citing them to be a fire hazard. Obviously they are hoping a bunch of cold hippies will become unmotivated instead of violent, but some violence will make for better tv than a bunch of people sulking home. Mmmmm watching society slowly unravel is going to be fun. I'm still waiting for the eurozone to implode. Also the news has recently been drumming up some more support for sticking our military boot up Irans ass after this whole "failed assassination" which would really make things interesting.

Europe will be fine. Greece etc have all taken so long to fall apart that people have had a ton of time to work on it. The US isn't going invade Iran anytime soon. We've had enough fun with Iraq to last quite a while. In theory, the only thing they could do to make us want to invade would be to show they've got a nuclear weapon, but you'd never actually invade a nuclear-armed country because they'd nuke you. If anyone does a surgical strike to dent their capability and set them back, it'll be the Israelies, and while they're pretty isolated right now, Iran is even worse. I think things will generally be quiet through the end of the year.

Well technically it's Monday, but most people were probably going out tonight. Would be raging at the weather if I owned a bar or a club in NY. Was looking forward to the parade of skanks in the lobby, but oh well.

Well if one of the tarps/tents caught fire the whole encampment would go up pretty quickly, but having people clear out is a bonus for any politician that's anti-OWS. I'm sure they knew how it would be perceived by people that are pro-OWS regardless of their intentions. And I doubt it'll get violent because of the storm, I went by this morning while picking up a pack of smokes. Seems like the people that are staying are just trying not to freeze their ass off, and there are barely any cops around to rage against.

I'll be very curious to see how many folks are still in the park sunday morning. Should be back to the sixties by middle of next week so I assume at least some folks will come back.

Agreed that the US wouldn't be down with occupying another middle eastern country after the past 10 years of clusterfucking we've done in Iraq. However, we just had a fun little proxy war in Libya that turned out very favorable. We didn't put troops on the ground but were able to give enough support to make it look like a bunch of hicks in pick up trucks can overthrow their government if they are really sincere about it. Ignore the tomahawk missiles and lasing of tank targets; the Libyan rebels overthrew there government cuz they love democracy like us. America wins because we get to act like we support the ragamuffin little guy who wants democracy without looking like the empire builder who kills leaders who don't have our best interests in mind. Libya wins because they get the sense of pride that comes with shooting your despot dictator in the head with a pistol and parading his dead body around town for a few days. Europe wins because they get to keep their 10% of sweet crude flowing from this shit hole in the desert.

The Iran situation is a little different considering they have some more hardware to deal with planes kicking their shit in from the sky. The best tactic would be rolling along with the momentum that has been brought upon by the arab spring. Flare ups in Syria were mostly ignored by the US because as long as the dictator en vogue keeps pumping oil we don't mind the machine gunning down of opposition civilians. However Iran is a different story. They like flexing their nuts over a nuclear arsenal they do not have and I could definitely see American and NATO forces supporting a "populace" uprising against their oppressive government. Again the United States isn't nation building for crude we are simply supporting democracy.

Things might be quiet through the rest of the year barring a complete implosion of the euro. I'm interested in next year seeing how "democracy" takes hold in the middle east (lol) and how America responds to faltering recoveries that seem to dip more into the negative over time regardless of the one off magic recovery circlejerks that seem to prop up the market for the time being. I think that decline is something more of us will have to get used to in the future. I don't see a Mad Max scenario on the horizon, but a slow and steady contraction. My biggest fear is the fact that the majority of the population has been bred into expecting an always expanding way of life which is not in line with the reality of diminishing energy inputs into our economies and the backlash that will occur when the stark reality of energy depletion meets the expectations of a generation infatuated with growth.

This thread has gotten me thinking too much. Can we go back to making fun of Gunther?
