Nobubble Level 85 Holy Paladin Guild Application
#1

Discuss your talents and tell us how long you have been this particular spec:
I am currently 34/5/2. Pretty straight forward build, mostly cookie cutter with a couple minor tweaks. Most people opt not to allocate a point to Blessed Life, but I found the extra holy power generated comes in handy. I find the build works well for me, but I am always interested in sharing ideas with others to make improvements and perform better overall.
Off spec- I am in the process of building a tank set. I honestly have not put much effort into it as my current guild has only used me as a healer.
Ventrilo and do you have a mic:
Yes and yes
Do you have an authenticator?
Yes I have one.
Typical Weekly Playtime:
I do not anticipate an issue with the Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday schedule. I will be on vacation departing 9/4 and returning home on 9/8, beyond that I do not know of any potential future conflicts.
Time Zone:
EST
Previous Guilds:
Unseen Wrath, FAIL (just before it destructed)
Previous Raiding Experience:
I have completed all 10 man regular encounters in BWD, BoT, and Throne. In Firelands I have significant experience on Shannox, Beth, and have spent a couple solid nights wiping on Rhyolith. If selected I would spend additional time reviewing videos for the other encounter I have not attempted yet.
Why are you applying to us:
I’m looking for a fun group to play with and see end game content. I believe myself to be a competent player and fast learner, and could make a meaningful contribution.
Link us your Armory:
http://us.battle.net...Nobubble/simple
World of Logs Report:
No current logs available, but I certainly can find a way to export a log from a future raid night and post. I understand this makes it difficult to assess my application.
Do you know anyone in guild? If so please list your pals.
I am not too familiar with anyone currently in the guild with the exception of Lavapally. There are a lot of familiar names that I have run across in pugs from time to time.
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I am recently married and work full time as a security consultant. I enjoy WOW because it is a cheap form of entertainment that won’t break my budget. When not playing the game I enjoy spending time reading and with my family.
Thank you for taking the time to review this application, and hope to hear from you soon.

Don't know much about holy pallies, but I like the tone of the app. Character passes the audit and gear looks good. Good first impression; maybe we can get him into a raid this week.
"Hey yo I'm gonna be on ti dop that's all my eyes can see
Victory is mine yeah surprisingly
I've been laying waiting for your next mistake
I put in work and watch my status escalate" - Gang Starr

Most important lesson from this app; first impressions matter. Hopefully he keeps it up tonight.

A little annoying to critique holy pallies since holy power doesn't show up in WoL.
Beth:
Shannox:
Rhyo:
Baleroc:
Aly:
Staghelm:
CDs: http://raidbots.com/...536#classskills
So overall it's staggering that you didn't cast a single DL last night. Don't think I've seen that since Wotlk (y'know, when DL didn't exist). You're really going to have to explain that to me, preferably with math and not anecdotal evidence. Aside from the bizarre FoLs, you could be mashing more in general, pallies don't really have mana issues so you should be able to at least pump out HLs to your hearts content.

Beth:
- Seems to be very heavy on FoL, Wrath takes a decent chunk of damage up there but it doesn't look like you or stab were in need of much emergency healing. I would think that the general strat would be to beacon the tank, DL directly when needed, spam HL on the DPS and yourself. You don't seem to use DL at all, which is odd to say the least. What's the reasoning behind it? FoL spam is incredibly mana inefficient, and sooner or later you'll fall behind on tank healing. With an Infusion of Light proc even DL's HPS is better than FoL. I can see if the logic if you were "raid" healing more with Cory tank healing, but up top you were just by yourself. If you're spamming FoL constantly to build holy power, that just seems crazy to me; I can't see a situation where never using DL is a good idea.
Shannox:
- Easy fight to heal, no real danger provided the tanks are dropping their debuffs correctly and rageface is getting broken. Didn't step on any traps which is good. Still no DLs.
Rhyo:
- One magma flow, not the end of the world. One of the fights where LoD takes precedence over WoG, work it in more.
Baleroc:
- Spamming FoL can be good for building up stacks, but for actual tank healing it's horrible. When Wrath is getting melee swings of 300k toward the end of the fight, you shouldn't be healing him with beacon.
Aly:
- Decent job on tornados. Don't get hit by brushfire, it's really easy to avoid. Same deal, too much FoL.
Staghelm:
- Broken record, what's with the FoL.
CDs: http://raidbots.com/...536#classskills
- Divine Protection, didn't use it once. It's a ridiculous ability - 20% reduced damage for 10 seconds, 40 second CD, gives 60% movement speed for 4 seconds with Speed of Light. You should pretty much be popping it on CD if you're taking damage or you have to move (either out of fire or to position yourself better to reach other people). Grabbing webs on Beth, getting eaten by rageface on Shannox, volcanoes on Rhyo, tornados on Aly, stacking up / spreading out on domo, molten seeds on Rag; there's pretty much an opportunity to use it on every fight. Defensive CDs are a must on hard modes. Tanks, DPS, healers, everyone has to do what they can to mitigate damage.
- Ditto for DS, though you have to pick your spots more with the longer cooldown.
- Aura Mastery - also situationally awesome. On the tougher fights you want to communicate with the tanks and other healers to rotate CDs (and not just pop them randomly). Once you come up with a plan you can use it every week, so it's definitely worth the time investment. I'd say if the healers committed to coordinating as a unit we could 2 heal most of FL (and it's not so much a lack of button mashing for the most part, just a lot of crosshealing).
- AW/DF/DP/GoAK - I'd expect you to get better at managing these as you get more reps on encounters.

I wanted to thank you for the invite to run with the group this week. I do appreciate the critique, which is honestly the first I have received since WotLK and see many points that I can incorporate. I have been delayed in responding due to family and work issues that required my attention.
FoL Use: I do agree with you. There are no mathematical or empirical arguments I can make; just a bad habit. DL is a spell I did not become comfortable with during the early days of Cata because of the longer cast time and mana cost and subsequently avoided it in my rotation. I have done some testing and noted the improvement in through put. I have rebound my keys replacing FoL with DL to force me to work it into my rotation.
Rhyo:
• . One of the fights where LoD takes precedence over WoG, work it in more.
I do agree and will adjust. I think by reducing my use of FoL with DL, I will have less of an inclination to rely on WoG as a big heal for the tanks.
Divine Protection, didn't use it once. It's a ridiculous ability - 20% reduced damage for 10 seconds, 40 second CD, gives 60% movement speed for 4 seconds with Speed of Light.
DP has been on my bar in weird position, and was a talent I had not assigned a key bind to. Adjustments have been made to my bars and a key binding has been assigned.
Ditto for DS, though you have to pick your spots more with the longer cooldown.
I tend to be pretty selective in using it, typically as a last resort. On rare occasions I like using it in combination with HoS on tanks. One example would be when Maloriak would glitch and put consuming flames on the Maloriak tank. This prevented many tank deaths.
Aura Mastery - also situationally awesome. – Yes it is

I do agree with you on this one. Prior planning, knowledge of the fights, as well as familiarity with the other players in the group will certainly help yield improvements, should I be invited back.
AW/DF/DP/GoAK - I'd expect you to get better at managing these as you get more reps on encounters.
With a good portion of the encounters being new to me, I was more focused on executing mechanics correctly. I think with firsthand knowledge of the encounters I can better plan appropriate times during the fights to maximize the use of these abilities.
I wanted to thank you again for the critique. I think you made some great points that will help me step up my game. It was a pleasure to run with the group. Let me know if you have any additional or follow questions. I do look forward to possibly joining the guild, if selected.

No big deal, it's better for people to take their time and think about the response anyway. Why don't we do another run after you get back from vacation, just to see how you're adjusting to the DL usage. If the breakdowns look better, we can tag you. Make sure that you don't veer to the opposite extreme and never use FoL, it is a situationally useful spell. But DL/HL will be your bread and butter.
