Discuss your talents and tell us how long you have been this particular spec:
My spec is Assassination, the poison-based stabbing demon of the rogue trees. I've taken the cookie cutter build (cookie cutter = optimal in this case), so there aren't any special Tricks(pun?) up this rogue's sleeves. Let's see.. I've been specced this way for pve since I hit 85, knowing from the start that I wanted to start raiding this expansion. I'm not going to claim I've done the most research of anyone who plays a rogue, nor will I imagine myself with a mathematics degree, whizzing through advanced calculations and flaunting them around on some jerky, elitist forum for all to see. I have, however, been to such forums where such people post, and I've read their work. Seems to indicate that what I am doing is right (for the time being at least). =D

Ventrilo and do you have a mic:
"Yes"

Do you have an authenticator?
No authenticator, but never had an issue with my account security (never so far =/= never ever, but I'm afraid I'd lose the authenticator and lock myself out of WoW, haha)

Typical Weekly Playtime:
I LIKE BEING TO THE POINT. On daily, raid times are no issue (sort of perfect, actually)

Time Zone:
I'm in the quite nonsensical Central Time Zone (protip: You're 1 hour ahead of me - my 10 is your 11)

Previous Guilds:
Previous Guilds eh? Asylum during BC before they left for Area 51 (I think they left A51 too, lol), Rising Phoenix (those leftover after the schism), Unseen Wrath for Cata.

Previous Raiding Experience:
Downed all T11 on normal, pre-Cata my schedule disallowed raiding so my experience is limited to what I could pug into on off-nights. Cleared Kara, Naxx, what have you. Raiding got serious when Deathwing burned down my Dragonhawk farm.

Why are you applying to us:
Simply put, you can take me places and I can help you get there. I can't raid solo and I can't multibox 9 other chars to raid, so I need some other competitive players to push onward with! The guild also has a relatively good rep for raiding, I've lacked serious progression up to this point (something I have desired greatly, but have not yet left UW to acheive). Seems only logical that someone wanting to raid would join a raiding guild, eh?

Link us your Armory:
http://us.battle.net...Veling/advanced

Screenshot of your UI, preferably in a raid environment:
http://s1112.photobu.../k484/DrVeling/ ~ TO BE NOTED: I didn't have a raid on hand at the time, but imagine Xperl raidframes slightly right of the Alliance flag. The second picture should show where Recount and the Xperl raidframes I was JUST talking about reside. I realized I could show you this way without a raid after I already uploaded the first pic, haha. Let's just say the first one is demonstrating my PowerAuras. Yeah, I like that story, let's go with that.

World of Logs Report:
On the way, I just set up a WoL acc this morning and haven't had the chance to log anything yet. I will follow up this post with a link as soon as I may, if acceptable.
~~ TL:DR two sentences - It's on the way ~~

Do you know anyone in guild? If so please list your pals.
To my knowledge, I don't know anyone, but you never know. I might recognize some names if I make it in. Let's just go for a 'no' on this one, though.

Tell us a bit about yourself:
So... you want to know about the ole Vel, eh? Well.. I like to think I'm a fun guy and I like to think I'm at least somewhat intelligent. I like to think that saying I like to think to start statements about my opinions is acceptable. If it's not obvious by now, I attempt humor and playfulness wherever I can fit them in, but that isn't to say that I will sacrifice an iota of seriousness for humor if seriousness if required. I am a moderately casual player looking to bring my accomplishments and experience up one or more notches. Dedication, not a problem. Competitive spirit, even less of one. Focus on content, within healthy boundaries, but it's there. I want to drop Heroic Rag as much as anyone. I'm confident that I could do it, too, given the proper means (guild group that knows their shit, is as focused and dedicated as I, etc. etc.)

Been on the realm since I started WoW, I've seen a lot of people come and go and stay. I'm a guy that keeps to himself for the most part, but pretty much just because it doesn't feel right throwing myself all over people I don't know. I'm a huge fairness buff, so when I read that fairness is a central theme in your guild, my pointy ears perked up and these green lights that I can't seem to stop from pouring out of my eyes.. well, they lit up a bit too.

Mmmm... I have a feeling this has stretched to more than "a bit", but I am terrible at writing these sorts of things ("about myself" segments) so if there is anything I need to expand or touch upon, reiterate, cut down on, what have you, just let me know and I can assist.

WHOA THERE'S MORE: That last line reminded me of something else. I am willing to help out if the one in need of help deserves it. I am very much based off of justice and people getting what they ought to. The hard workers should not get the same shit that a half-asser gets. The douchebags shouldn't get the same niceties that the polite and pleasant. Overall, no one should get out of line.

Good God, I need to stop typing already.

The app is entertaining enough, but I'm not sure if we have room for another rogue atm. Maybe a WoL of you really tearing it up would sway things in your favor, but it'd have to be impressive.

Well, it gets as impressive as my gear allows, and I haven't exactly had the most optimal group to run with. Have really been held back in that department, which is why I'm looking to come in with you guys. WoL will be on the way as soon as possible and I'll not be padding it or trying to rig it so that I obliterate the chart, just for the sake of showing you. If I'm pulling 30k because I cheated my way into a good log, it'd be total bullshit. I'll give you what you ask for, just expect an honest representation.

Any idea of what would be an impressive log? I'll be frank in saying that I am almost certainly not higher dps than your current rogue at the moment, but I say this because he outgears me a bit. His daggers are my main concern (FL stabbers, something which I haven't had the opportunity to chance a drop for), but I do sincerely think I'd be competitive as is anyway.

I'd like to impress you enough to get in, really, but I know this is out of my hands either way.

Right, we'd take gear, job, encounter, etc. all into consideration. Flask just got his MH last night so I'd expect his numbers to improve as well. I can appreciate not trying to game the chart, most of the time it's pretty obvious.

As far as impressive, pulling +90% of the simulated DPS for your gear while doing all the right things (staying out of fire, attacking the right target at the right time, proper use of offensive and defensive CDs) is always good. Degree of difficulty counts, so raids look better than 5-mans, FL looks better than T11, etc.

If you can demonstrate some class/encounter knowledge that goes a long way as well - specific thoughts on things you would be well suited to do in certain encounters (for example right now we're working on Rag).

Well, since you brought up Rag, I may as well use that for a demonstration.

On Rag, being specced into 1/2 deadly brew (1. It's one point because that's all my spec has to spare, and 2. Deadly Brew gives my Instant poison a 50% chance to proc a 70% snare poison on the affected target.) Instant procs often as Assassination (more so than other specs due to the use of Envenom over Eviscerate), and while it isn't a reliable method of application ON DEMAND, it is almost guaranteed given some time on the target. The snare would help slow the Sons down so that they don't make it to the Hammer during phase change intermissions.

Another thing I may be able to assist with on Rag would be triggering the Magma Traps (properly named? Magma, lava, something of that nature, but you know what I mean) due to my Safe Fall passive as a Rogue and my ability to Cloak through magic damage. I'm unsure whether or not I would actually trigger the trap if under the effects of Cloak, but just from looking at the fight, I noticed that as a possible application.

Yet another thing I'd be good for on Rag would be my 15% extra movement speed, allowing me to kite a Meteor for longer than a slower person. While my only way to knock it back myself would be to stop and spend a second or so throwing an axe at it, that's what Vent is for.

Also, during extended AoE segments, such as the part of the Rag fight where the raid stacks in the middle of the room to avoid the flame balls (if following Tankspot's method), a rogue's AoE can ramp properly. Usually, an Assassination rogue will fall behind in an AoE fight, due to his reliance on poisons for damage. Single target is usually my specialty, but that is due to the nature of my DPS. I require a bit of time on any target to get my true DPS rolling. Well, if the AoE phase is going to last longer than a trash pull in a 5 man, the damage I can do gets a chance to really show itself. Once I have 5 Deadly Poison stacks on any target, any further procs of the poison will trigger my other poison, Instant, which is a massive chunk of my total damage in any fight. Poisons are Assn's specialty, and it's not surprising. Mastery is their prime stat once hit capped and an Assassin's mastery increases poison damage done. Anyways, I also have a talent in Assn (well, every rogue specced Assn should too, but that's irrelevant) that gives my Fan of Knives a chance to apply the poisons from my melee weapons. This ends up being a doubled chance for Deadly to proc (throwing wep proc + OH proc) and that equates to a faster ramp time and a higher amount of Instant procs once stacked up.

I'm sure there are other Tricks (tee hee, I'm punning again) I could pull on the Scions to help your tank pick those up, too.

Can someone else please comment on the fact that he is an ass-rogue? Best part of the application IMO. Or am I just perverted?

My new avatar name was going to be ass pirate (Thanks for two straight tiers of hideous helms Blizz!) but I changed it because of the ass rogue.

With hunters, it basically depends on how much you like looking like a pirate. Sobie's clearly a fan. Good mascot, btw.

No authenticator, but never had an issue with my account security (never so far =/= never ever, but I'm afraid I'd lose the authenticator and lock myself out of WoW, haha)

Security of your own account is important, just because you have never been hacked does not mean you will never be hacked. I would hate to see you hacked. Before the authenticator came out I was not hacked once. I didn't get one as soon as it came out either. For a while I used the same one my husband used, and it forced him to have to leave his phone home from work, well.....long story short I disabled it for a bit and a week later I was hacked, I lost everything and even though I caught the noob and went in to change my password(it was never changed from my original, what a noob hacker huh) it still took a while to get everything back, even then you are not guarenteed to get everything back....oh hey look I'm rambling...authenticator is really nice to have and you can get a blizz issued that could never leave your desk or be attached to car/house keys that should never be lost. lol

I've never been worried about getting hacked; to me most people who get hacked are morons (no offense to the people in guild who have been hacked), along the same lines of people who get scammed by nigerian kings, get their identity stolen, etc. I ended up getting the authenticator for my iPhone after they started tracking IP/MAC addresses for the core hound. After you put it in the first time you never really have to do it again (provided you're not playing from 10 different places every week). And if I lost my phone WoW would be low on the list of crap I'd be annoyed at losing.

P.S., I tried taking off the authenticator after I learned the pet and they unlearned the pet from my toon, so I'm stuck with it at least until I get 150 pets.

Well, personally, my opinion is that the authenticator is another way for Blizz to milk my ever-valuable money from me. Considering that the comp I play WoW on is used for literally nothing but logging in and playing (don't even do research for the game on it, and all of my addons come onto the machine by way of an external hard-drive), it just doesn't seem reasonable to spend the money.

If it comes down to it, with the authenticator being the tipping factor for an accepted application, I'd buy one. With that said, however, after 4 years with not even a blip on my account security radar, and with Blizz already charging a bit too much a month to play, the money is better spend elsewhere in life. Without being frugal my personal finances aren't what I need them to be, so I watch every penny that goes out and only buy what I must.

Doesn't really make a difference to me if you have one or not; we keep our guild bank fairly locked down so there's not much fallout even if you were to get hacked. FYI, the mobile authenticator for smartphones is free afaik.

We might be short a melee DPS tonight so if you're available I can try to take you along for a trial; I'll follow up with you in-game but we start at 8 and have Staghlem/Rag left for the week. If not you should try to get a WoL on your own.

It's getting there, lol. Should be going into FL tomorrow (was going to have one tonight, but the raid's cancelled), Beth, maybe Rhy, so I'll let you have one as soon as I can. Not the best fights for SUPREME DEE PEE ESS, but I'll just show you what comes out of it.

I'd rather give you a FL log than any other.
