Do you guys get playoff hockey on regular channels? I know hockey's not very popular in the US, but I would've thought the playoffs would be on a somewhat recognizable channel (seriously wtf is Versus).

The Canadian teams in round 1 get shown on TSN (the sports network up here) or CBC.

The also sometimes do random games of the American match ups for filler I think. For my T.V package I think im 1 up from regular cable, and I get both TSN and CBC.... to get all the playoff hockey you would probably have to subscribe to the NHL network or something... I generally lose interest in the hockey once Toronto is out, and Ill only watch the habs play to see them lose.

If you enjoy hockey, sports, or documentaries in any way, I'd highly recommend watching HBO's 24/7 Series on the Penguins vs. Capitals. Tremendously well done, you couldn't write a better script for this stuff.

soccer is amazingly fun to play, are stupidly annoying to watch. and im not talking about the most recent world cup, I follow the toronto club now since I played so much as a kid, and i just cant sit through and entire half without being plastered.

the rest of the world is just poor, thats why soccer is so popular. cricket is way better to watch anyways.

edit: started watching the doc, looks really well done so far in the first 10mins. Lovely to see the leafs lose, even when their season is done....sigh.

hopefully i can watch it all tomorrow. need documentary thread obviously.

You can probably download the rest of the episodes, worth watching in HD.

It's back! This season it's Rangers v. Flyers, plenty of history there:

The episode is broken out into 6 parts (youtube limit) but you can see them on the guy's channel if you don't have HBO or feel like finding a place to download it. The Flyers goalie is pretty much made for TV.

Also for hockey fans, the NY Times did a really great article on Derek Boogaard who was the premier "enforcer" in the NHL for a few years. He died of an accidental OD last year and they ended up testing his brain for CTE (like Alzheimer's, but caused by repeated blows to the head). It's a long read (3 parts), but it's really well done and you get a good feel for hockey/Canadian culture, violence in sports, the physical sacrifice some of these guys make, etc. Similar to the fantastic work Alan Schwarz did for football and concussions a few years ago, and it's relevant with all the shit going on in hockey nowadays (Crosby, Flyers losing Giroux and Pronger): http://www.nytimes.c...?pagewanted=all

Why do I feel like you've posted that video before... did I see it somewhere else it seems very familiar. Also, flyers rule.

It first aired at 10 PM on Wednesday, so probably not. Unless you're talking about the one from last year, which is earlier in this thread.
