Discuss your talents and tell us how long you have been this particular spec:
Both my specs are cookie cutter, although I have reviewed all the talents for myself and considered some different options - I don't just blindly trust in the advice of others. My elemental spec is pretty static, but I am definitely going to be playing around with my restoration spec for raid healing. Telluric Currents is definitely something I'm going to put points into if I'm going to be raid healing, and I am also considering Ancestral Resolve. In which case, points will be removed probably from Cleansing Waters, and maybe one from Nature's Blessing (as I assume I won't be tank healing).

Ventrilo and do you have a mic:
Yes.

Do you have an authenticator?
Yes.

Typical Weekly Playtime:
I generally am online whenever a raid is happening (even if I am not in said raid, I wait outside the instance and read/work on homework). I am also online long enough to do my Heroic Daily.

Time Zone:
CST - but the conversion to EST is easy, lol.

Previous Guilds:
<Evident>/<Sin> on Burning Legion in Vanilla (server first Nef kill!)
<Conviction> on Illidan in BC (cleared everything up to Brutallus)
<Riders of Lohan> on Gorefiend in WotLK (consisted of me and one other friend, didn't raid in WotLK)
<The Mourning> on Drenden (Alliance) in Cataclysm (currently in this guild, but they don't need another Shaman. I was recruited because their geared Shaman disappeared. She has since returned, and I have been left without a regular raid spot - although they still bring me in when they can because I'm competent.)

Previous Raiding Experience:
I have killed all twelve raid bosses in normal and Halfus on Heroic. I have gotten Chimaeron to 6% and Mag to 800k HP on Heroic. I know enough about each fight to perform my role well, but I couldn't exactly explain the tanking mechanics to you.. :P

Why are you applying to us:
I am applying to Heresiarch because you guys are right at the ideal progression spot for me. I am still undergeared for Heroics, but with 1960 VP saved up and a few epics already, Normal progression is the right spot for me right now. <Summit> is looking for an Elemental Shaman, but I prefer not to get carried through content - I'd rather progress with a guild that's around the same level as me - it's more fun that way! Also, I have a friend in Heresiarch (not a raider - Firstaidkit).

Link us your Armory:
Thundershock's Armory

This may be changing quite rapidly as I continue to farm content with <The Mourning> - who knows, I may get another epic or two that would have been DE'd otherwise.

World of Logs Report:
Because this is a healing app and I have only DPS'd in raids, I do not have a WoL parse for you to look at. I generally pull 12 - 13k DPS in raids as Elemental, with that number going up ~2k if I'm allowed to use my Fire Elemental as I please.

Do you know anyone in guild? If so please list your pals.
Yeah, I know Firstaidkit, but you might be asking, "Who?". Yeah.. he doesn't raid. :F

Tell us a bit about yourself:
I'm 23, I am about to graduate from Bradley University with a degree in History. I live in a really nice apartment in a shitty part of town and if you hear gunshots in the background while I'm talking on vent, do not be alarmed, because I'm used to it. Other than WoW I play Heroes of Newerth and I watch Anime. I also enjoy social drinking and I'm a pretty decent dancer.

As a recently accepted applicant I highly advise you get a parse. These guys and gals don't look at them for dps/damage numbers in my opinion its what they look at last. I got tore apart for not having one and luckily I had one on file I did not know about. They wanna see uptimes/mechanics etc etc.

I dont know much about shamans so I can't go in depth, but I noticed your only wearing one reputation epic. I understand you could use two epic peices from the Wild hammer clan both belt and necklace. The necklace not having spirit on it, is still an upgrade from your current one, and the belt would be a huge upgrade and save you lots of gold from buying the boe one from a LW.

Also I would like to know have you put anytime into the Tol Barad dailies>? Most definitely worth doing for a free epic trinket. So there is 3 basically free epics you could use/need.

Gear is a little low but looks like it's ready for raiding. I like the fact that you took the time to properly gem and enchant everything it shows you are competent and willing to put some effort into your character. Your app also comes across as well thought out which is a good sign. I don't know jack about shaman healing specs but I'm curious why you would put 2 points into ancestral swiftness instead of spending them in the pushback protection of ancestral resolve.

Try to see if you can get into a BH raid for a WoL parse as a healer or if you run something with your current guild as a healer update your app to include the log. As locklove said we like to get a parse so we can check out your performance in a raid environment. Overall the app seems pretty well thought out and although shamans are currently on the shitty end of the healing spectrum a competent player will always get a fair evaluation. Not sure if we were still looking to recruit another healer; Sobie will have to answer that one.

Shamans are getting some really nice buffs in 4.1. They're not really THAT far off right now, and this should put them more or less in line with everyone else.

Ancestral Swiftness is actually pretty spiffy as a talent. With the amount of movement required in many fights, +15% move speed can really come in handy plus insta-cast ghost wolf is nice in a variety of situations. I'm slightly surprised you went with glyph of water shield over earthliving weapon, but then didn't spec into TC, since they're both basically mana regen-related. I don't have much heal experience on my shaman outside of BH, but I've healed many heroics on him, and I'm a BIG fan of TC, but it all really comes down to throughput vs longevity (since the points for TC tend to come out of Acuity and maybe Cleansing Waters) which heroics don't really test you on (unless you have awful dps and get like a 7 min kill on the final GB boss, or your group fails at CCing the Adepts in VP). Glyphs and spec are pretty much in-line with EJ.

There's some residual +hit reforges, which I assume is left over from ele, as (I assume) is the reforging from spirit to haste. Haste is great, and reforging from crit to haste is good, but spirit is a pretty good stat as well and generally not something to reforge out of.

With the exception of those little things, app and character look good.

I do like the overall app (it's one of the better written ones we've had in a while) and we've had a good relationship with The Mourning going way back so I tend to have faith in their raiders.

  • Gear's on the lower limit of what we'd accept
  • Ditto on the glyph of water shield over earthliving
  • If you were to raid it would likely be as resto, so the reforging should be fixed

WoL reports: Obviously these are logs of DPS, but they're useful for checking overall situational awareness and ability. Also, since most decent players can play multiple specs/classes sufficiently well, it's not too much of a stretch to see how well you stack up.

Cho'gall: http://www.worldoflo.../?s=5927&e=6446

  • Took some damage from oozes
  • Got hit with one corrupting crash
  • Took 5 ticks from blazes
  • Didn't attack adds in Phase 2
  • Low DPS time and low DPS overall, even for your gear

Council: http://www.worldoflo.../?s=2369&e=2732

  • 3 ticks of glaciate
  • Again DPS time and DPS is low - was outDPS'd by the DK tank

Al'akir: http://www.worldoflo.../?s=7606&e=8087

  • 3rd person to die, though in P3
  • Didn't get hit by tornado, which is good

Valiona & Theralion: http://www.worldoflo.../?s=2806&e=3047

  • One tick of devouring flames
  • Took more damage than anyone else from fabulous flames, seems to be a little slow running out of void zones

And some really hideous logs from Maloriak (http://www.worldoflo.../?s=4538&e=4882) and Atramedes (http://www.worldoflo.../?s=3742&e=4091), but they're from the day after you hit 85, so I'm more willing to overlook those.

I felt a lot better about the app before I looked at the logs. Again, there's no magic DPS > HPS comparison, but mistakes on fight mechanics and the low DPS on multiple fights (after accounting for gear) are troubling. But then again you just hit 85 2 weeks ago so you may have been getting used to the new spec, and you've done a decent job in getting gear/rep considering the time frame.

There's enough in the app to make me want to see you heal, but since you're Alliance we obviously can't trial you in a raid. I'm going to have to see a healing log before I make a decision.

Edit: One more thing, I wouldn't worry about BH/TwiHi rep in case you do end up transferring. All those will be reset if you switch to Horde.

Ouch. Haha.

In all fairness, the attempts you are noting are my first or second attempts on these bosses. Also, I was Enhance up until I joined <The Mourning>, so a lot of those earlier attempts are my first time DPSing as Elemental in any PvE environment. If you were perfect on every raid encounter after just reading the fight, you would one shot every boss. We all know this is not the case. If it might assuage your reservations, you could hop on an Alliance toon on Drenden and ask one of the officers about my performance - Krualty, Donpablo, Cianden - anyone will have my back.

There is a chance I will be raiding with <The Mourning> tonight, and if not, I will be in the alt run on Sunday. I will put together WoL parses from these for your convenience. Also, as far as my Resto spec goes - it is currently set for Heroic encounters where Mana is not a problem (hence no Telluric Currents). My main spec right now is Ele, so this is why my gear is reforged for Haste/Mastery out of Spirit. Obviously you will see significant reforging if I come to heal in raids.

Of course, and you did show improvement as the raids went along, it's just hard to find out exactly where your performance will settle after you get used to the encounters, gear up a bit, etc. I'm just trying to figure out what your ceiling is.

Sadly all my character slots on Drenden are taken by Horde toons, but I've been on friendly terms with the Mourning since BC (I'm guessing Arangar doesn't play any more) so if you're cool with them you're cool with me.

Post the latest WoL when you have a chance and we'll chat some more. I try to be more careful with faction/server transfers since more is at stake (your money, rep/achievements that gets lost in the conversion, time, etc.).

When I faction changed my rep still stayed the same the only thing I lost was unfinished quest lines like Twilight highlands I was 8 quest from the achieve and now im back at 55 quest >.>. But again none of my exalted/revered rep was affected.

Guess they cleaned up the process, good to hear. I know some folks have complained in the past about some stuff getting wonky after a transfer. If I ever end up raiding on another toon I'm definitely switching my hunter to alliance for a week just to fish in Ironforge in peace.
