With the mideast burning and gas prices climbing I'm wondering if any of you guys are cyclists and can point a noob like me in the right direction for shit to look for when purchasing a bike. I live like a mile from work and it's starting to seem silly to drive here every day.

Just a bike to get around? if you're not looking to get in to anything serious just go to your local bike store and ask them for something casual but isn't going to break down in a month. (like a wal-mart and target bike)

I personally bought myself this quite a while back ago. Thing is a fuckin champ.

but I obviously do more than your casual riding! :P
been riding bmx bikes for 6 years now. I love it. Great exercise and cardio, and gas here is almost 3.60 a gallon. -_______-

Lol sobie you want me to leave my apartment in the morning and just start hauling ass to work? The image in my head just cracks me up of some professional running as fast as he can to get to work. And yea I don't need like a superbike just some shit to get around. Didn't know if there was anything special to look out for.

Well it would be funny if you went balls out in a 3-piece suit and wingtips, might want to at least wear sneakers or something. Or if you want to be the ultimate tool get yourself a:

But aren't you going to work up a sweat during the summers with a bike? And not sure what your dress code is, but you'd get wrinkles in dress pants and might scuff up nicer shoes too.

Wheels, pedals, a seat, and that chainy-thing.

Nah my dress code is casual; I can get away with sandals/shorts/t-shirt. Biking during Atlanta summer though would be pretty painful. Muggy ass concrete jungle.

A mile is about a 15m walk and a 3-5m bike ride. I live a mile from work, and I feel that biking is almost more of a hassle than it's worth. Sure, I save 10 minutes, but it's too short to call it exercise. I've pretty much chosen to just walk and leave the bike.
That which doesn't kill you gets to try again later.

Walked to work today. Apparently I'm slow as hell because it took me 25 minutes and probably not the best day to walk to work since it looks like Atlanta's sniz is about to get pounded with rain. Damn I should be a weather man.

Cannondale and Gary Fisher both make excellent bikes
