The contenders:
- Coachella - Indio, CA 4/15 - 4/17 - http://www.coachella.com/
- Bonnaroo - Manchester, TN 6/9 - 6/12 - http://www.bonnaroo.com/
The dark horse:
- Ultra - Miami, FL 3/25 - 3/27 - http://www.ultramusicfestival.com/
The wild card:
- Glastonbury - Pilton, UK 6/22 - 6/26 - http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/
Glastonbury would be awesome, but I don't feel like spending my birthday on some farm in England, so that's probably out. Ultra would have the best nightlife, but the music's more one-dimensional and 5 weeks isn't enough time for me to get in South Beach shape. So right now it's looking like a choice between Coachella and Bonnaroo.

Pro C:
- At first glance C has more bands I like since B spans more genres/eras (Would I go see Robert Plant and Neil Young if I was at B? Sure. Would I go just for them? No).
- In terms of "single-day-of-awesomness" I don't think any day at B's going to beat C's Saturday lineup - at least 13 bands I would go to watch on their own, and I'm sure I'd overhear another half dozen while wandering around.
- Dry 105 degree heat > 95% humidity 95 degree heat
- Could go hang out in San Diego / LA a few days before, not doing jack shit in Tennessee.
- More pseudo-celebrity/upscale crowd = better talent for hooking up
Pro B:
- I've seen a lot of Coachella's bands recently or will have the opportunity to in the next few months. As epic as Kanye would be in a California desert surrounded by 100,000 people, don't think it's going to top his album release party in NYC. So that takes some of the edge off Coachella's biggest "must-see" act.
- From the list of bands B has that C doesn't, a few are pretty high on my "go see" list - My Morning Jacket, Florence and the Machine, and Eminem.
- More chances for bat-shit crazy antics at the actual festival
- Better weed
- Less obligated to bring female friends since girls don't like pooping in the woods = better chances of hooking up, though with swamp-thing levels of filth
