Wrathette is geared up and ready to level. What's the best leveling spec for a mage now? Frost for the control?

I find you get half a level or so early on (10-30 ish) from winning WSG.

If you have BOAs and you're not 80, fire is amazing. I've been two shotting things w/ pyro and fireblast and I still am for the most part (26 atm).

In general, frost though imo.

My mage has been fire since the first point and I LOVE IT! I'm in the 70s on her now and it's flown by.

Thinking arcane to 30, then frost. That having been said, low-level pvping as Arcane has been pretty awesome.

Isn't fire all crit dependent and AoE-y, without the control of frost? Seems like that would get me killed.

Why aoe on fire when you can two shot stuff w/ single tar lol?

Yeah, I was talking to an Arcane mage in my bg and his barrages were critting 550 on a low cd (bout half someone's hp).

Yeah, arcane barrage crits ftw. At 13 was doing WSG and a couple times I literally one-shot people with barrage crits. In one game, we were against a team of really twinked gnomes who were like little tanks but with our burst dps, a hunter and I had fun repeatedly ambushing them and slaughtering them.

Foodie was fire and I don't think I ever had to cast more than three spells on a mob under level 30 to down it. (One of those spells would be the instant cast Fire Blast) I flew through the levels.

I'd strongly recommend fire for fun and efficiency.

I strongly recommend fire as well just because its such lolz knowing the enemy gave you enough time to cast pyro.

But.... as far as overall ability goes... arcane seems best early on, then frost if you still want to pvp some.

If Hecatus and I agree, it must be true. ;)

Also: glad you're still around, Hect. :)

Of course I'm still lurking around. Granted its not as much because school's whooping my ass on top of a raid schedule but I snoop around when I can >>

The prroblem I have with fire is pyro. Almost all non elites die to two spells, and since ive got two nice instants I dont even have to stop running (i generally don't bother looting). Its hard to see a situation other than laughing at someone in pvp rather than killing them efficiently where id want to go fire. For raiding, sure, but I dont see it for leveing.

There's a point where frost and arcane no longer two shot things. Later on it takes a lot longer. Again, I suggest you use Arcane till that is the case. At some point you're going to want to go Fire just to get used to the raiding spec as a whole (and maybe dabble in frost to tinker w/ pvp survivability etc.) As a general rule of thumb I PpP a large bracket of my leveling as my own personal way of clutching the class by the balls and taking it for a joy ride (nohomo). You'd be surprised what you subconsciously learn from just trying to fend off folks in a 1v5 scenario etc.

I ended up going arcane all the way up. For anyone else thinking of leveling a mage, I'll note that with BoAs (but otherwise just using quest greens and dungeon drop blues) I was 3 or 4 shotting stuff even in Twilight Highlands at 84.
