Mrs Wrath just pointed out that the guy who plays the boss, Ron, from Parks and Rec (Nick Offerman) is married to Megan Mullally in real life. Whether or not you liked Will and Grace, Megan Mullally's character was a multi-year exercise in sustained comedic brilliance (as an amusing aside, she's also a singer and made an album with Meatloaf). Anyone who hasn't watched Parks and Rec since its weak first few episodes (and judging from the ratings, that would be all of you) should really catch a re-run or two. Ron's interview of April, the summer intern, to be his assistant might have been my favorite moment of TV last season since 30 Rock seems to have jumped the shark and we didn't really get into Mad Men until watching reruns after moving (somehow we didn't get AMC in NYC).

I haven't been this pleased by a show-biz marriage since learning Will Arnett and Amy Poehler tied the knot. Bizarre that Arrested Development was Arnett's first comedic role and he's never really considered himself a comic actor. Wikipedia's the best.

Speaking of Mad Men, anyone who likes the show and enjoys pondering the minutia should check out the regular discussion blog on it at Slate.com. The Bewitched-Mad Men parallels are interesting.

The second season of Parks and Rec was consistently top-notch. Ron Swanson is definitely one of my favorite characters on TV atm, I might drink some whisky and go make a harp this weekend. Annoyed that it's not coming back until January. DJ roomba brought me so much joy:

Mullaly is great playing the crazy ex-wife on P&R too, Arnett's cameo as the creepy MRI guy didn't do much for me. I'd rather see him butt heads with Jack Donaghy any day.

Also brilliant, Community. I would put the 30 mins of the episode "Modern Warfare" up against any comedy in the past few years. If you like tongue-in-cheek pop culture references you'll have the time of your life. Has a surprisingly cute Trudy from Mad Men too.

And a fist bump for Modern Family; not much in terms of plot, but as a character driven show it's fantastic.

30 Rock and The Office has definitely lost some steam.

Have you seen Breaking Bad on AMC Wrath?

Ah, Community. I'm torn on it. I generally like it, but it makes me a little sad because its pilot was AMAZING (perhaps the 2nd best pilot I've ever seen after the pilot for Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Studio 60 ended up getting curb-stomped by 30 Rock in the battle of "behind the scenes at SNL" shows. Studio 60's pilot was friggin awesome but as each successive episode totally failed to live up to the initial promise, it broke my heart. It was like reaching the point where I could no longer deny even to myself that the Watchmen movie sucked. Mrs Wrath feels the same way about Jack Black. There's transcendent potential in there, but you can only watch it get squandered for so long before you lose hope) and it had that great Matt and Kim song in its promos and it shows the occasional flash of genius. It has fabulous potential, hopefully it grows into it.

Agree on Modern Family though. The characters are wonderful. I love that the fat, flamboyant partner of the gay brother played Div I college football and bonds with distant, largely uncaring dad over college sports. "So, you started the fire while teaching your 10-year old step son how to weld?", "Yeah, not my best parenting moment", "Well, not your worst, either, Dad." If Dwight Schrute wasn't already my life coach, I'd give the job to Ed O'Neil.

Never seen Breaking Bad but I'm told its terrific.

Community can be a bit inconsistent, but Abed usually saves the day. And when it gets it right like the paintball or chicken episodes it just belts it out of the park.

I have this illogical hatred of Jack Black for some reason. Everything he does irritates me and I can't find him funny. It's like Will Ferrell but 10 times worse.

I'd highly recommend Breaking Bad, the acting from the two main characters is probably the best I've seen in a drama since the Wire. Summer's a great time to knock out some episodes since there's not much on anyway.

Also surprisingly good, Justified on FX. Has Timothy Olyphant from Deadwood in it, dude knows how to wear a cowboy hat and give off that smoldering, just-beneath-the-surface rage. Could be because I didn't expect much going in, but solid first season. Very clever at using unexpected humor to cut the tension too.

Hmm, haven't seen any of those, but may try to catch an episode.

We also like The Good Guys. Bradly Whitford and Tom Hanks's son investigating minor property crimes in Texas. Surprisingly amusing when in the right frame of mind.

I guess I don't watch enough TV. I've never even heard of these shows. Although I did enjoy the clip and might have to check it out. What I do watch I tend to stumble on from someone else and the record it. (I hate commercials) I do watch a couple of shows some. The big bang theory makes me laugh. I know way to many nerds/genus class people not to appreciate it. This has to be my all time favorite clip.

I also like Numbers, Bones, Supernatural and Ghosthunters. That is about all I keep up with. I have rented series and watched them but I usually don't have time to watch TV.

hmm guess it would appear I like scientific or supernatural things.

So what channel/network does Parks and Rec show on? If it is something I get I'll record an episode or two.

I usually torrent tv shows; the popular ones are available in HD and they cut out the commercials for you. It takes me a lot of effort to latch on to a show I haven't seen, so I usually download a season and knock it out on a rainy weekend when I'm bored. I have the first few episodes of Louie (Louis C.K.'s new show) that I should watch one of these days.

Parks and Rec is on NBC, but in their infinite wisdom they decided to make it a midseason replacement for the 3rd season so new episodes won't be on until Jan '11. The first season is meh, but if you stick it out to the second it's worth it.

If you like sci fi I'd also recommend Fringe (FOX). Can also be hit or miss but it does it's job as a poor man's X-Files.

I tend to watch TV more than movies because it's less of a commitment. Most of the time I don't feel like sitting around for 2 hours, but if I can knock out a TV show in 20-40 minutes (no commercials) before bed or something that's perfect. Also, having the TV on low volume in bed is grossly underrated, gives you just enough light for fooling around.
