Discuss your talents and tell us how long you have been this particular spec:
I've been Discipline (57/14) for quite a long time, ever since I started playing Discipline around the time Ulduar came out. It's pretty much cookie-cutter, but I see a lot of Disc priests out there who take certain rather useless talents so I've been careful to avoid them (for instance, Divine Fury in the Holy tree, which looks good at first but does nothing for the Disc priest's main spells). I also keep Desperate Prayer (even though it ain't particularly great), mostly because its an instant cast for bad situations. I took Improved Renew over Healing Focus only after much thought, after I realized that I don't suffer pushback as much as I thought I would in raids... but this one is still open to debate. In the Disc tree, things are pretty cookie-cutter, all the good talents and none of the bad ones. I love talking about talents... /nerd

Ventrilo and do you have a mic:
Yep, have Vent and a mic, I usually am free to talk, but sometimes the girlfriend might be sleeping, on phone, etc; but if I have to I'll use my headphones and just listen in.

Typical Weekly Playtime:
I'm not going to lie - it's summer, vacations and camping come up in a way they don't during the school year. That being said, Tuesday and Sunday 8-11 are no problem, and I'll definitely show up for some Wednesdays and Thursdays (especially if I'm needed). I'm pretty good about alerting people if I'm going to be away.

Time Zone:
EST, Montreal, same as server.

Previous Guilds:
When I hit 80, The Wrath (Aiel raid lead). When that fell apart, Icecrown Raiders (Rhogar raid lead). That morphed into Elysian Fields (Hendrix, Charliemon, Nikkiknewl, occasionally myself raid lead). Since then (about 2 months ago), I drifted from Valorous Saints (Elysian Fields merged with them) to Excelsior because I have more friends in Excelsior, but I find I'm just not enjoying the raiding atmosphere.

Previous Raiding Experience:
I used to play in vanilla WoW, a Night Elf Warrior, got to 80 and tanked MC and BWL, but didn't stick around too long and quit due to the fact that I was just starting my undergraduate degree at the time (and my grades had fallen). I started up again when Wrath came out. I know about half the fights in Naxx (I hit 80 and was gearing up as everyone raided Naxx), everything in Ulduar other than Yogg, all the little raids in Wrath, ToC and ToGC (though I'm not sure I could explain TOGC), most of ICC normal mode (up to and including Sindragosa) and a couple heroic modes. I haven't really raided for the past couple months but my gear is still pretty solid. Also, I have stuck almost exclusively to 10s in the past, you'll see from my gear - I like the smaller group - but I'm working on trying more 25s.

Why are you applying to us:
Specifically, because of a great ICC 25 pug led by Mooartin last night. Otherwise, whenever I've raided with you guys in the past it's always been efficient, clearly explained, and pretty damn fun. People are lucky to get in on your pug raids, and I'd love a chance to hang out with you all because you seem like you have fun and get stuff done.

Link us your Armory:
Click for Armory Link

Wow web stats reports:
Here's a sample from ICC 25 about a week ago, mostly a guild run with Excelsior: Click here for WoL link.

Do you know anyone in guild? If so please list your pals.
No, don't really know anyone too well, but after looking through your roster on Armory I definitely recognize a few names, and maybe a few of you will recognize mine.

Tell us a bit about yourself:
I'm a 22 year old dude from BC, Canada, living in Montréal and pursuing a graduate degree in Buddhist Studies. Weird, I know right!? I like stuff like playing guitar, rock climbing, gaming (obviously!), cooking, reading, writing and all that stuff. For work I run my own little web design company and do some work for an old Indian philosophy professor at the university. Hope to talk to you guys soon!

I've run stuff with him before. Has always seemed useful. Has a couple 10-man heroic kills which is nice and actually including a WoL link is probably the most promising part.

Dunno if we actually have space for a healer, though.

This might be a bit of a premature response, but honestly, even if you guys don't have space for a healer in any regular raids, I'd still be willing to join up. I can help out on occasion if someone is missing (or just pug stuff if I'm not in for the week), and mainly you guys just seem like decent people to play with, and that's the most important part IMO.

Healing breakdown looks good, except for 1 single renew cast across 3 kills. Does that really merit the talents you put into it? Only take talents that seem worthless unless the alternative really is worthless, which Healing Focus is not for the most part.

I sometime cast renew as disc, but it will come to your role. If Ashley assigns you to focus on a tank, or a specific ability (bone spikes for example) renew becomes very valuable. If you on raid healing for LK or BQL or dream walker... its entirely worthless. Obviously if we regularly have 2 disc priests together, the roles will be normalized so we can each gem/talent properly.

Drop all those intellect gems and pick up SP gems. they will benefit you more unless you are the only disc priest in a given fight, and are doing nothing but bubbles for which you cannot abuse rapture (you will never be the only disc priest in this guilds raids in all likelyness). Also, ignore the socket bonuses. When they come up with a bonus larger than 10sp, disc priest might be encouraged to gem for sockets.

Your haste is 683, which is above the softcap, try and drop that haste/MP5 ring and a belt with crit would not hurt either. (try not to go above 400, but your better to be a little over than a little under.

Start collecting 251 tier gear, as the disc 4peice is not to be missed. (optional for holy priests by all standards).

Assuming Ashely gives the all clear on this app, ill probably start regemming back to haste for my holy spec, and we should be good on healing priests (2 of each spec + len can come ninja some sweet luut if we are short).

edit: glyph of flash heal = no. take prayer, unless you end up being the disc priest assigned to heal tanks or specific abilities.

Hi Guinthel,

Thanks for the response. I'll grant that I barely cast renew in raids, ESPECIALLY 25s - too busy bubbling and PoMing and flashing and whatnot - but I do use it in heroics, easier instances, and perhaps occasionally ICC 10s, and those 3 points have to go somewhere (better in reducing magic damage? Healing Focus?). As I said, those points in the holy tree are always up to debate and playing around with, because the main point is getting down to the 10% reduced damage buff.

I definitely, in principle, would agree with going full SP, but I'd like to talk more about this. Originally I had gemmed all intellect, which resulted in me having an extraordinarily high amount of mana (totally ridiculous and useless), so I switched out many of the gems in order to get my SP as high as I could. However, I found that it was mainly about finding a balance between spell power and having enough mana to always finish a fight, given that I'd use fiend, HoH, a pot, and trinks. In all honesty I used to end up on BQ and a few other fights pretty much OOMed when 2-healing them, and I'd be a little uncomfortable reducing my mana pool more - an OOM priest is a useless priest after all. As I said, I'd like to talk about that more, because you sound like you know what you're talking about, but on the other hand those aren't just totally random gems. Granted I did last raid hard a couple months ago so things may have changed a little with the added buffs in ICC, and I can perhaps afford to switch out yet more int.

As for haste, sure, I think I have a nice belt hanging around with some crit on it I can switch out.

I stopped my raiding about a week or two after Blizz changed the T10 set bonus to the 5% bubble bonus - so I was obviously pretty mad because I basically ignored it back then - but even with the change I am still a little wary about it. I know that a flat 5% bonus to my bubbles is great, but the itemization for Disc priests on tier gear tends to be pretty meh - a whole ton of spirit pretty much everywhere. Again, I'd like to talk about this further, as switching out nicely itemized 264 pieces for 251 pieces in order to pursue the set bonus is something I would like to discuss.

Sure, I'm willing to switch out flash heal glyph for prayer - I'm a scribe with 100% of glyphs, it's cheap, and tbh Flash Heal glyph was a lot more useful back when we used to run out of mana a lot more often. PoH isn't exactly my most used spell, but hell, I won't miss the 10% more mana on Flash.

Hope to talk with you more in the future.

IMHO that's probably not the way to go. We have Raider and Friend ranks, pretty much. If you're a Friend, you won't get into any raids (or rather, since I've been in the guild, with 4 25 man raids a week, I've seen Friends get invited maybe 3 or 4 times - and never to ICC, always to TOC). So if you want to raid, keep the app in for a Raid spot. I'm not an officer nor a healer, but I know that with summer coming up (here?), attendance drops and it just might happen that we will need healers.

Just a free bit of unsolicited advice, take it for what it's worth.

As a fellow priest... what is your opinion on proper power infusion usage?

LOL.

No, seriously though.

lol. i almost never use power infusion on myself - always give to the highest caster dps around who its suited to - mages, boomkins, etc. especially mages. especially if they give me focus magic. xD

i'll only really use it on myself in intense fights, but I keep it on CD as much as I can, and i think i'm generally pretty good at remembering it.

ATM we aren't really looking for a priest the slot has been filled. If something changes we can reevaluate. If you want a friend slot you should message Shardik, I am unsure how this will work as you have yet to say you have a friend in the guild which this slot is for... however he is the one to talk to and find out how that could work for you.

As Charles said it is rare that we take friends to raids, however Moo runs lots of pugs and there is quite a few guild 10 mans that take friends. As well as your more likely to get a raiding spot if one opens if you have raided with guild members and they like you.
I'm not dumb, I just choose not to be smart at the moment.

Alright, thanks for the reply. I just looked at your recruiting needs and saw you had listed a priest, figured it was a good opportunity. Please feel free to contact me in the future, or send me an email (I assume moderators can see my email through my account), if you are looking for a Disc priest in the future who can pull some big heals.

Thanks! Hope to see you guys in-game.
