Discuss your talents and tell us how long you have been this particular spec:
As far as mages go, there are really only 2 viable raiding specs. Of the two: Arcane is still overall the strongest potential damage. Fight's like Lich King can be the exception to that rule because there are adds in P1, and P3 that take advantage of the Fire Mage's AoE capabilities from Living Bomb. I chose to be Arcane because I've learned how to play the spec effectively and most of my gear is optimized for it, except for a couple of pieces of gear with unnecessary amounts of hit that are just serving as place holders right now until I get the specific items I'm looking for. I've been playing Arcane since it became the optimal mage spec during the ToC raid content. When patch 3.3.3 hit, I removed points from Incanter's Absorption and put them into Magic Absorption for increased survivability. I don't like Student of the Mind, I find those are wasted talent points. Spirit is a minor mana regen stat generally (eclipsed heavily by the mage’s other more potent mana regenerating mechanics), and it’s only other aspect contributes to my Crit through Molten Armor (which although great, Crit is not as highly prioritized for arcane as it is other mage specs). I personally opt for Magic Attunement which offers increased range so fights like Saurfang Jr., Princes, and others are less of a problem as far as movement, and it increases the effectiveness of Amplify Magic to benefit encounters like Saurfang Jr. and Valithria. I don't take Slow because other classes bring a slowing mechanic with much greater efficiency and less of a penalty on available talents. I take Frost Warding over Ice Shards, because when used properly on boss fights with frost or fire damage, I can maintain a higher amount of mana , without having to resort to Evocation as often.

Ventrilo and do you have a mic:
Yes, I have Vent and a mic, I'm not much of a talker, but I can if the encounter calls for verbal communication.

Typical Weekly Playtime:

I work M, T, Th, and F, 10:00-5:30 central time. I get home around 6:30-7:00 central time; I'm pretty much always available to raid 8:00 server and later every day.

Time Zone:
As mentioned above I'm central time, 1 hr less than server time.

Previous Guilds:
I've been in FAIL for the past year and a half, and all of my raiding experience has been done with that guild.

Previous Raiding Experience:
Classic WoW: I started playing in TBC, the only experience I have of these instances are from doing retro runs at level 80.

TBC: I raided all the T4 content as it was current. Did ZA, TK, Hyjal, and BT only partially when it was current, but have since gone back at 80 to clear these zones.

Wrath: Naxx 10/25 full clear (undying on 10), OS 10/25 (3D on both), Malygos 10/25, Ulduar 10/25 cleared up to Yogg (never actually killed that bugger myself), ToC 10/25 cleared normal modes only (4/5 on ToGC10), ICC 10/25 (I have Kingslayer from 10m, cleared first wing, fester, rot, and blood princes on 25)

Why are you applying to us:

My current guild is disbanding. I'm looking for a new home, but one that is competitive in the raiding environment.

Link us your Armory:

Wow web stats reports:
http://www.worldoflo...m/guilds/33743/

That is a link to FAIL's WoL page. I can't really say which raids have been logged or not because I didn't set it up. You can probably find me in there somewhere. The past couple of months have been spotty on data collection due to the decline of the guild.

Do you know anyone in guild? If so please list your pals.
I know Hecatus, he used to be in FAIL many moons ago, and still has/had an alt there if I'm not mistaken. I’ll be honest, I’m not very familiar with who all is in your guild, but likely if they were in FAIL they know who I am.

Tell us a bit about yourself:

As a person, I'm fairly quiet and laid back. I communicate better through words than speech, but I can talk on vent, just prefer not to. My main has been and will always be my Mage. My understanding of this class is the most extensive for me personally; though my alts include a lv80 Bear Druid tank, lv80 Elemental Shaman, lv80 Prot Warrior, and a baby Priest on his way. I try to be useful when I can. I provide portals, enchants, tailoring, glyphs, and other profession related services to guildmates at no charge. I raid with the seriousness of a person, who wants to contribute and succeed, but keeping always in mind this is still a video game, and I'll never accept my game becoming more tedious or stressful than my RL job.

Can we get a WoL link that you're actually in? I've flipped through 5 nights of raiding and found you 0 times. Would be pretty amazing if I didn't have to look through a bunch of crap I don't care about to find a raid you were actually in.

Couple things as I know nothing about mages, just general comments about the apps.

Firstly Nice fishing pole... really hope you don't raid with that cause its not enchanted well.
Secondly your little blib at the top I stopped reading its WAY to long.

Thirdly I am not looking through your logs for you it would do you good to take the time to find one yourself, I am not a bus driver locating your house.

Are you saying you will never be alone before 8pm server?
As our invites go out at 7:45 and our first pull happens at 8pm, this would be a HUGE disadvantage to you.
I'm not dumb, I just choose not to be smart at the moment.

App looks good except a solid world of longs link with you in it. Once I get that and some insight on what Rohanna discussed I can look into your app a bit more. We are a bit tight on mages right now but I might be able to squeeze you in if your numbers are on the spot I want to see people in your gear pulling.

Pardon the fishing pole. My armory should now be correctly updated to reflect my actual weapon.

In explaining my spec, I felt doing a thorough job was better than too little. The information might be useful for whomever would assess that sort of thing.

I do not manage our World of Logs account, and I have a feeling the people who did haven't really kept up with recording events for the past several months with any reliability or frequency. FAIL hasn't had a full guild 25 person run in probably 2 months. Our 10 man teams have also basically fallen apart. I don't really know what information is there, or where specific encounters can be found, but If it exists, that's where it will be. I wanted to put something rather than nothing.

Anecdotally I can say that as it got towards the end, I was perhaps 1 of 3 or 4 other casters. Our raids were stacked heavily on melee. The full spectrum of caster buffs was very lacking (no boomkins, no elemental shamans) but I was able to perform as the top caster DPS.

Timing is not an issue. If I have to be available online to raid at a certain time, I can make myself be available.

I have a few questions.

Why do you feel SotM is worthless, but not Magic absorption? They are both pretty worthless relatively. With the splash damage in ICC i would say getting at least 2 in Stability might be worth it over either.

Im also curious on your chosing to get some socket bonuses and not others. Your boots have red/blue and you didnt get the bonus, however your chest has the same +7 spell power socket bonus and you did get that one. Your ring is +5 spell power bonus and you did get that... but your head which has a +9 spell power bonus you didnt get?? Generally if youre going for sockets than if its > 5 spell power get it, if not just roll with + 23 spell power. Some people don't care about them and just go with all of the same things, i'd just like to see consistency so its not like throwing darts at a board on weather to get a socket bonus or not.
