Discuss your talents and tell us how long you have been this particular spec:
My current spec consists of 15/51/5.
Ever since I started playing WoW I have been spec'd combat. Yes, I have tried the obvious Mutilate spec everyone talks about and wonders why I don't use. I actually sat on the target dummies for quite some time trying different combination and sequences of attacks, SnD, poisons, etc. to no avail. I found that with Combat Axes I do approximately 800 more DPS than with Mutilate. This test was done with the cookie cutter Mutilate spec everyone uses vs. my own version of Combat spec. Maybe I went wrong somewhere? I do know for sure that the Orc racial Axe Specialization, coupled with Master of Anatomy (Max skinning, gives you extra crit.) and with the Hack and Slash talent I see a good source of increased DPS.
PS: I don't think I know any secrets anyone who plays a rogue doesn't already know.
Ventrilo and do you have a mic:
Yes, and yes.
Typical Weekly Playtime:
I am mostly online during the nighttime, 7pm+ server time, with the exception of most Fridays and Saturdays. Occasionally other days will have me away from the game during the 8pm-11pm raid times, but those should be seldom.
Time Zone:
I am on server time, EST.
Previous Guilds:
I am a fairly recent transfer from Alliance. Prior to this time I was MIA from WoW for about a year.
Guilds in reverse Chronological order:
- Drama Society (Horde) : in as Friend of a former Raider
- Insurrection (Alliance) : raided with them all the way up to Black Temple back in BC. Stopped playing shortly before Wotlk came out.
- Can't remember the previous guilds, I was in Insurrection for about two years, give or take.
Previous Raiding Experience:
I have a mostly photographic memory, remind me how the boss looked/where it was and I can most likely explain the fight.
- Classic : Zul'Gurub (Healer/DPS), Molten Core (Healer/DPS), BWL (Healer) and AQ20 (Healer)
- BC : Karazhan (Healer/DPS), Gruul's Lair (Healer/DPS), Magtheridon's Lair (DPS), Tempest Keep (DPS), SSC (DPS), Mt. Hyjal (DPS) and first few bosses in Black Temple (DPS)
- Wotlk : I can honestly say I have been off my game during Wotlk and can't explain a boss fight to save my life. I had a buddy playing my account so he got most of the gear, however, I am great at listening and following directions. I have successfully raided Naxx (10), ICC (10), ToC (10) and VoA (10) simply following direction and by intuition of what's going on around the fights.
In general most fights have a way of explaining themselves and give obvious clues as to what's going on or what's happening. These small hints help me stay on tip top shape when it comes to a fight that's new to me.
Why are you applying to us:
Approximately two hours ago Mooartin was looking for one DPS with good gear for ICC 10. I whispered him and he invited me within a minute or two. After the raid I noticed that some of the players were being extremely nice about the fact that a recent invitee and myself were saved to the raid without downing a boss. This made me realize that the guild and the players might be great. I chatted for a while with Cuddlebutt and confirmed my expectation.
Yes, Heresiarch is the top Horde guild on Drenden, however, I think the players in the guild make up one of the best parts of it. To be completely honest, coming from Alliance and Heresiarch being the top Horde guild, I was under the presumption that the officers and players would be arrogant jerks who didn't care for anyone else outside of their own little circle - I was proven wrong =). I believe that getting along with others and acting as a team works out better than having someone shouting insults or barking commands on Vent. I am seeing that Heresiarch might be the perfect home to be in and have this friendly context.
While on the subject, I was looking to apply mainly as a friend/10-man raider. Hopefully, in due time, moving up to the big boys raid, but not expecting anything.

Tell us a bit about yourself:
I am 24 years old and a very quiet person. I have my Associates in Arts in Computer Science, and working slowly on my Bachelors. I love working with computers and I currently work as the IT guy everyone bothers. Most of all I love doing software programming, and lucky for me it's what the company I work for has me doing 85% of the time. On a more social level, I mostly keep to myself and avoid bothering others to help with things I can manage to do on my own.

DPS wasn't bad for a rogue or DPS wasn't bad for a pug? The screenshots don't include anyone from Heresiarch that does amazing DPS, so as a rogue I'd expect to see him beating all of them. Also showing the raw DPS in his screenshots instead of Damage Done + DPS makes me cringe a bit, gives me the impression that he favors DPS without consideration for DPS time.
Simulations show combat at least 1k DPS behind mutilate in T9-T10, so it worries me that he's doing 800 DPS more with combat. I'm more inclined to think he's doing something wrong. If a hunter said "I get higher DPS with BM than SV or MM" - I would assume he's a retard. Same if a mage said Frost over Arcane. Since I'm not a rogue expert I'm not going to go that far, but not really convinced of his ability yet.
The gemming is also all over the place.

Just the fact that he made a conscious decision to play a spec that does less DPS rather than figure out what he was doing in Assassination wrong makes me =\

Now, we all know one of the BEST things about this guild is the wealth of information our senior players have. Gem changes, spec changes and banging around a 10 man team for a while practicing mutilate with constructive direction will get him in tip top shape. And like he said, he hasn't done a whole lot of WOTLK himself. Moo's raid team might be a good place.
ps. If he doesn't work out, then blame Cuddle.

I will add a screenshot when I get home of the Dmg + DPS. I kind of took the "...so we can check out your DPS/heals/tankage." too literal.

Well, it's ok to call someone a retard because of his/her opinion or what he/she said. However, I did fail in not mentioning that my daggers are slightly lower level than the Axes I have.
As far as gemming goes, well, I know that I kind of messed up on what should be there, but it's all fixable in the blink of an eye. IMO this shouldn't be a complete con.

Well, I do admit that this seems very shallow to just go for the easy choice; however, as far as an excuse, I would rather play a spec that I am very familiar with and still do better or almost as good as some better geared players than to just fail because I wanted to have the spec everyone raves about.

As I mentioned in the lock app, I'm all for people playing the spec they like - if he had said "I do get better DPS as Mut but just have a strong personal preference for Combat" I would have just thought he was weird and moved on (what kind of rogue doesn't want to haxx meters?!). But it seems like the disparity does get ridiculous in fullT10 according to simulcraft, combat is losing almost 2k DPS to mut and is below... wait for it... BM hunters.

I am completely open to playing any spec suggested as far as it benefits everybody. So far I haven't raided seriously with any guild, or had any guidance since I started playing again in January (this year). I haven't even had as much as a good DPS reference/comparison coming from another rogue with similar gear.
If there is a better spec, or a better way of playing I will go for that. If I fail at DPS, sure I'll go reading elitistjerks and find out where I'm going wrong.

Usually top 3 out of 5 DPS? I'll try to apply some context to it. Deceax is decent at times but I wouldn't consider him one of our top DPS. Warzero is probably a notch below, though we haven't seen him in action for that long so maybe he'll get better. Savros has been... disappointing in DPS so far (I'll leave the details out of it since this isn't the place for it). I would expect a competent rogue in his gear to destroy all of them due to the strength of the class alone - yes it's a 10-man, but he had DK/Warriors for synergy, more than the mages at least.

No screenshots please. /combatlog + WoL or WWS. For a funny example of why, look here: http://www.heresiarc...dpost__p__19983
If you're not raiding consistently, use it in a pug (preferably not VoA) or take one in ICC 10 if you run with the Heresiarch folks again.

If I do get into Moo's raid again for ICC10 I will record the combat log and upload to WWS, otherwise I will provide one as soon as I get into any raid with the exception of VoA.

While Mutilate itemized to perfection will without a doubt out DPS combat on raw dps bosses. I feel that it would be much better in your case and in many cases to simply stay combat. Seeing how you are mostly geared for it and would require an immense amount of upgrades to get on par with what you already have. But no matter what spec you choose to play in a raiding environment one thing is for sure you really need to work on your gemming. If you're going to play combat be sure to gem for the ArP soft cap. If you're going to play mutilate AP gems are the most common in gear while making sure you have enough hit rating to stay under the crit cap.
This is a pretty vague breakdown so if you need anything cleared up be sure to ask ill respond and try to give a better analysis.
-I don't have any say in recruitment but I really liked the app and attitude being projected from Jesse and not just the butt kissing =P
