Hi, Zaken. I'm not an expert on dk tanking, but a couple things confuse me. First off, your spec puzzles me as you've got both talents that don't seem especially tanky while missing some others that seem important. For example, you took 2/2 Butchery while passing entirely on Will of the Necropolis. Isn't WotN pretty much standard? Along similar lines, you took 2/2 Runic Power Mastery while only going 3/5 in Blood Gorged. While I recognize you aren't over 75% health a lot of the time as a tank, 4% more damage and a further 4% in armor reduction (which is pretty huge for any blood spec) seems like it would be more valuable for threat generation than having a cap of 130 RP.

For gearing, I generally like your gear (nothing with block or anything else obviously dumb), though I note that you're both way over defense cap as well as wearing a pair of avoidance trinkets. Is that for threat purposes or do you prefer avoidance? I ask because you've mostly stacked +30 stam gems everywhere (except for that +parry gem, which should probably get swapped. Parry gems aren't good). For gems, +def/+stam is the usual head gem, but since you're way over cap already I can see why you went with something else, though a pure threat gem is an interesting choice for that spot.

You're only friendly with Hodir, which we generally take as a sign of questionable commitment, but you've got the pvp shoulder enchant which is fine. Being way over def cap means the bonus resilience is worthless, but I'm way over def cap as well and use the same enchant. However, I do note your chest has the +def enchant instead of +stats or +health, so I ponder again your head gem. Is threat an issue (hence the head gem) or is it an old enchant on the chest from when you needed it to hit 540?

I've played with Zak for a while in the G-string. and not only is she a good tank, but she's a funny girl, drama free, and extremely patient.

...and I love her. <3

I vouch for Zak. We raided all the time in 'is malicious', hell I'm pretty sure that's all Zak tries to do with her time is raid. Anyway, she's a solid tank and a total tom-boy.

Awww Thanks Nuadaa, Forte, and Shiraki <3

Yeaaah about that defense rating, i am aware that i am over capped, but with the gear its hard not to be. chest enchant i know needs to be changed must still be there from when i was messing with trying to duel wield tank, heh, ask forte about that i am sure he has some funny story's...... it didnt work out, so back to a 2-handed weapon i went. I've been playing around with a lot of different specs lately to see what works best for me. So far this spec is decent, but i might change it up again. I dont copy specs online or whatever i try to find something that works for me. Trial and error, but i am ALWAYS up for suggestions

I have seen up to Mimiron actually. downed hodir freya thorim. Its not lack of commitment its more a lack of being able to find a group that will be committed to go that far in ulduar. especially hard now since TOC is out, BBB didnt ever go back and do ulduar really and they said fend for yourselves on 10 mans. hmmm.........

As I'm sure others would tell you, it all comes down to what you are trying to achieve. EVERYONE has threat problems at one time or another, as Blizzard has designed WoW to challenge tanks (and other roles) in various ways. Part of being a good tank is finding ways to solve those challenges.

For example, holding threat in a fast heroic run is basically all about bursting just enough threat simultaneously on the 2-4 mobs you run into on each pull so that you can hold threat for the 15-20 seconds it should take the dps to burst them down. Given run time and slowing effects some classes put on mobs, that could mean that if you can do 5-8k threat to each of the mobs in the first couple seconds, you can be moving on to the next group by the time the pull is half dead because the mobs will be dead before they can reach the dps. Doing that well requires a particular skill set and attitude.

If you're tanking Emalon on a pug VoA, if you can get a hunter MD and blow threat cooldowns on the pull, 3k sustained threat is probably perfectly adequate to maintain threat and not have any problems as the cooldown and the MD will see you through to the first overcharge, and you'll probably be fine after that.

However, if you're tanking Hodir and making Hard mode attempts, you should be aware that multiple dps will likely need to be over 10k dps to succeed. They'll probably be ranged, but that still means the tank needs to be over 8k tps to hold onto him, while dodging icicles, not getting flash frozen, etc. Vezax can be the same way with shadow crash buffs. What Sobe means is that it is not possible to generate enough threat in "reasonable" tanking gear to meet all the challenges WoW throws at you. As a tank, being aware of what are some of those challenges and how would you handle them shows how you think about this kind of stuff. As you might guess, if you were accepted, you probably wouldn't actually be tanking Hodir for hard mode attempts anytime soon, but it also gives us an idea about whether you'd be someone who we would want to be in that position (or its Icecrown equivalent) down the road.

Obviously, sometimes there are problems but I feel for the most part I do a good job at what I do. Thank you wrathblood for your comment that really helped open my eyes on TPS and get a better idea of where I need to be on some encounters.
