I really enjoyed the Japanese version for Death Note. Very high quality animation and a clever story.
If you liked Death Note, try and get a hold of Code Geass, the second season should be starting up soon. Characters are designed by CLAMP and the main character is deviously clever like Light, only you can root for him because he's not a villain protagonist.
I think you mentioned liking FLCL as well, Dak. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann or Daibuster are also favorites of mine made by GAINAX.

Not much of an Evangelion fan though, to be honest.
Hadn't had much anime watching recently though, doubly so because I just picked up the first season of Heroes.
Back to watching more Heroes. I know it's late! I can't help it! I need another episode!

I am afraid that FLCL may be in the vein of Cowboy Bebop - a magnum opus that sophmore efforts so fail to follow up that I'm livid with anger ~
